Hi there,
This month's idea: fees compound too
We talk a lot about compound growth. Fees compound as well, in the other direction. A fund that costs 1% a year instead of 0.1% takes that difference every single year, on a growing balance. Over a working lifetime, that can add up to a meaningful share of your savings.

Check this in your own account
Log in to your 401(k) or IRA and find the expense ratio for each fund you hold (it's on the fund's fact sheet). Write them down. You don't have to change anything today; just know what you're paying.
Reader question
"Should I stop contributing while the market is down?" We can't tell you what to do with your own money, but here's something to consider: regular contributions buy more shares when prices are lower, and long-term money has time to recover. Your emergency fund is what should cover short-term needs. See When the market drops.
